Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) after 9 years living with a traumatic brain injury (TBI)!
Hi there!
My name is Maria. I’m a researcher and currently a health manager for & caregiver to my husband, Kim, whom I married 26 years ago. In February 2022, Kim was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), an incurable disease for his age. These news were so disheartening, after having battled with the effects of two traumatic brain injuries suffered in 2011 and 2013, which left Kim with a cognitive disability and changed our lives forever.
With a survival rate of a few months without treatment to 15 -22 months with treatment, this new and life ending challenge threw me back again into a discovery and fighting phase, one I knew well when I fought tooth and nail to improve my husband’s life after his TBIs.
Because of my background as a researcher to find solutions to problems, I’ve decided to create this blog to share our experiences as we navigate this disease as well as to share the knowledge acquired so that others may benefit from it.
