Kim’s Military Salute

On Thursday, December 26, when Daniel & Lauren were with us for the holidays, a Navy Retiree, Hospice Volunteer, Vince, presided a short, very special Military Salute to honor the years of service that Kim paid to the Navy from 1970-1973. I invited close friends from the area and we celebrated with a feast contributed by everyone. It was such a memorable and joyous ceremony.

Many things touched my heart. A giving person made a quilt for Kim with the American flag fabric pattern; Vince shared that often when he presides this ceremony veterans do not have anyone with them – no family or friends – and he was appreciative to see such support system for Kim; and, when Vince asked Kim to get ready for the military salute ( last two videos in link below), Kim insisted that he wanted to stand up even though we were all asking him to stay seated because he’s weak.

this ceremony was a highlight of our holidays.

  1. Maria and Family, Very nice tribute to a US veteran. My step dad was in WWII and passed in 2014 at 95 years old. He went on an Honor Flight from Rochester, NY to Washington, DC when he was 91 years old and came back from that trip knowing he was honored.
