Challenging fist week at home

Flowers from friends Jeanne & Ken cheer up his room; Doing exercises in bed to re-wire the brain

This week has flown by very rapidly and I feel as if I’ve been run over by a truck! Caring for Kim and being responsible for it all is not only physically and emotionally demanding, but it is more than a full-time job of scheduling & training caregivers , waiting for them to arrive, wondering why they are late ( one was late by 1 hour), and training and helping them; meeting with the hospice team ( intake coordinator, nurse, social work, chaplain, etc.); meeting with doctors over the phone, etc. A the end of each day, I feel like I’ve run a marathon as I go up and down the many flights of stairs in my house to bring things to Kim or others.

In addition, Kim is a lot weaker physically, as I’m having to hold his weight more than before when transferring him from the bed to the bathroom. Unfortunately, he wants to be in bed most of the time. I’ve managed to take him out on wheelchair rides only once to enjoy the fabulous weather we’ve been having. I’m praying that things settle down and I’m able to survive having Kim in hospice at home 🙏

Trust you have local friends who can give you some support. Sending so much love. Hope that as the caregivers get used to the regimen tunings will ease up for you. Hugs.

Maria, I’m sorry that this is so challenging. You are making a Herculean effort. Please remember that you are no good to Kim if your health, safety, and well being are at risk. So, whatever options you are considering as you move forward must factor in your needs as well. This just makes sense; as they say in the airlines “put your oxygen mask on first before positioning on children (or others who cannot care for themselves)”. So please take care of yourself. Sending lots of hugs and love,
    K & G
