Oscar & Otis have been in bed with Kim since he got home
For those of you who have had children, bringing Kim home last night almost felt like bringing your first born baby home!
After the last two days of final preparations, trying to find the most suited technology for monitoring Kim from our third floor bedroom where I planned to sleep, was the last remaining task.
I picked up Kim at the skilled nursing facility after lunch, and after a few good byes, thank you presents, and well wishes, I wheeled him out and got him into our car. The staff really liked Kim, enjoyed his witty and dry sense of humor, and all said they will miss him. His language and sense of humor have remained nearly unaffected by all his illnesses, thankfully, since humor is his way of connecting with people.
At home was waiting a home health aid, which was great help in getting him settled. After she left, came the Hospice Intake nurse who left at 9 pm, after a nearly 3 hour meeting where everything was discussed. Needless to say we were both exhausted!
I settled Kim down for the evening, helping him walk with the quad cane to the bathroom, and snuggling him into his bed where our cats where still claiming a portion of it.
I was reminded of learning that cats are known to detect illnesses ( body & mind) in people, or even detect when they’re about to die, and comfort them by sleeping with them. I learned this back in July when we stayed at an Inn and the Inn’s cat slept next to Kim the two nights we spent there. Here are some articles about this.
