At the main entrance of Future Care Chesapeake
We’ve been taking Kim inside his skilled nursing facility in his wheel chair but today I decided to wheel him out the front entrance so he could get fresh air, sun, and could see the facility from the outside.
Though slowly, he’s improving. However, I had a very sobering conversation with the director of therapy yesterday … if kim is not able to show sustained improvement, Medicare & his BCBS Federal government insurance will send him home. Or, he can go to long term care, for out-of-pocket shocking monthly payment for which there are no available beds at this facility and there’s a long waiting list. Kim did try to get long-term-insurance on several occasions since he was young but was not insured because of a heart condition.
As many of you probably know, if you don’t have long term care insurance ( which only covers an x number of months), and if you have assets of more than $130k or so, your and your spouses assets will be wiped out to that level before Medicaid kicks in. Motto: buy super expensive long term care if you qualify and make sure you and your spouse’s assets are protected so that your hard earned retirement savings that you’re counting on for living expenses are not wiped out 😬🙏
