Friday, August 12 – not waking up!

Unfortunately, Kim’s brain injuries have always made his cognitive disability worse when he’s been hospitalized. This time it is not different. As he gets a little better, he wants to come home, gets agitated mainly at night and when I’m about to leave.

Two nights ago, after passing a modified swallowing test during the day, he got very agitated and the attending nurse gave him an anti psychotic medication that knocked him out until yesterday evening when he was finally somewhat alert. When the nurses tried to feed him, he choked so he’s now back to not being able to eat anything 🥲

I tried to keep him awake all afternoon and in the evening so that he sleeps at night. I played songs he likes, read the paper, tried to keep him awake. But even he told me he felt very groggy and tired.

Unfortunately, he got agitated after I left late last night and they had to give him another medication though less strong. We’re now trying to keep him awake so that he can receive treatment – Physical Therapy and the swallowing test again.
