It helps to be around to advocate

Last night kim said his body was tired of being in bed. So I called the tech and she and the nurse agreed to move him to the chair. We spent quality time this evening since he entered the hospital because he could interact more. He was very alert. I had him practice swallowing his own saliva to prepare him for passing the swallow test today.

With the many hospitalizations Kim has had since his first TBI injury in 2011, I’ve learned that managing and advocating for his health and comfort are very important for best outcomes.

As I had said in an earlier post, there have been countless times when I was there to provide Kim’s health history or to question an intervention or medication or to advocate for his comfort. My stance is to be of help, but also to let the staff know that I’m very much aware of what’s going on and that I have armed myself with enough information to ask important questions or provide information that has often changed the direction of treatment, the meds given, or their quantity.

Again, a person with the number and type of health issues kim has does need a health manager 😊

  1. Kim is so fortunate to have you in his corner…advocating and caring. You are an angel.
