Vacationing in the Finger Lakes

Views of Canandaigua Lake, named ‘Kanandague’ or the ‘chosen spot’ by the Seneca Indians

One of our favorite areas to visit is the Finger Lakes in upstate New York. Maria decided to drive to the area after treatment #4 ended and while Kim is still doing fairly well. He enjoys trips and seeing the scenery.

Inhabited by the Iroquois tribes, one of the most powerful Indian nations during colonial times that was able to prevent European colonization for nearly 2 centuries, many of the lakes have almost a haunted atmosphere.

Maria lived north of the lakes in Rochester for over 15 years and biked around the lakes close to 6,000 miles before moving to the DC area to join Kim in 1996. She feels a deep connection to this area. We enjoy visiting with close friends, taking care of a friend’s cats, and vacationing in this area that feels like being ‘home’ to Maria.
