Around John Hopkins

Wall Art near the Hospital

The Baltimore east Campus of John Hopkins Hospital is large and beautiful. However, people talk about how dangerous its surroundings are and advise people not to venture too far out of the campus area. The hospital is patrolled by over 1000 security guards who sit in booths around the entire campus to provide safety to their employees and patients.

After taking Kim to this hospital for more than 2 months and waiting inside for his treatment to end, I decided to venture out. To my surprise, I found the surrounding neighborhood to be beautifully decorated with art, gardens, some cafes, and stores. There are several new housing units as the area seems to be going through ‘gentrification.’ It reminded me of the importance of experiencing a place on one’s own before judging it.
