Day 1 – February 14: The Diagnosis

John Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center

Monday, February 14, 2022 – Valentine’s Day. We met with Dr Jonathan Webster, Kim’s lead oncologist in John Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center in Baltimore. He went over the results of Kim’s bone marrow biopsy performed 2 weeks earlier. Ordered by the first general oncologist who saw Kim and suspected cancer, I already knew what the prognosis would be as I got the results in MyChart as soon as they came out: Acute Myeloid Leukemia, incurable for Kim’s age, 75, with a life expectancy of 3-6 months without treatment and 1.5-2 years with the available treatment.
